C4WE Genre-Writing Contest

The September Genre-Writing Contest is now open for entries!

The genre for this contest is “Crime Fiction.” To enter contest, click HERE.

Deadline for entering is September 1st, 2012 at MIDNIGHT! Judging will be completed by October 15, 2012

Following are the contest rules:

1. Each contest will have a specific genre announced the first day of the contest period.

2. Contest deadlines are March 1, May 1, September 1, and November 1. Stories are due no later than midnight on the first day of the contest month, but can be submitted anytime after the genre has been announced as long as the entry fee has been paid. Entry fees can be paid in advance of submission, but stories will not be accepted if submitted prior to payment of entry fees.

3. Each story must have a minimum of 1,500 words and a maximum of 2,000 words. Any story that falls outside these word limits will be eliminated from the competition.

4. Stories may be fiction or non-fiction, as long as they meet the genre requirements. Note: some genres are specific for fiction or non-fiction.

5. The entry fee of $15.oo per story can be paid in advance or with the contest entry, but must be paid no later than midnight on the deadline for the contest month.

6. Critiques will be available for an additional $10. The critiques will be completed by the judges and returned to the writers after the contest winners have been announced. If a writer would like a critique without a contest entry, there is a $15 charge. Critiques without contest entries will be returned within two weeks of submission of the story and critique request.

7. All rights to the story remain the property of the author.

8. Prizes for the contest are as follows:

First Place: $50 cash, publication on the Center for Writing Excellence Website, mention in the Excellent Writing enewsletter, and inclusion in the annual anthology with the Fiction in Five contest winners.

Second Place: $25 cash, publication on the Center for Writing Excellence Website, mention in the Excellent Writing enewsletter, and inclusion in the annual anthology with the Fiction in Five contest winners.

Third Place: $15 cash, publication on the Center for Writing Excellence Website, mention in the Excellent Writing enewsletter, and inclusion in the annual anthology with the Fiction in Five contest winners.

Cash prizes will be delivered via PayPal.

Once you have entered the contest, submit your story as a .doc, .docx, .txt. or .rtf file to janiewrites1@gmail.com.  Please include your name, address, and word count in the body of the email the story is attached to. 

Remember, the deadline to enter and submit your Crime Fiction story is SEPTEMBER 1, 2012, at MIDNIGHT.

  4. Is your site having technical difficulties? When I click on “enter…” I get a message that the web page cannot be accessed.

  5. Do you have to be a member to enter writing contests?

    I don’t understand how to submit my story for the contest.

    • you do not need to be a member – anyone can enter. Just click on the link above to enter, fill out the form, and pay the entry fee. When you have your story ready, submit it to janiewrites1@gmail.com as an attachment. (.doc, .docx,. .txt., or .rtf file)
